Things to Know!

Emergency Shelter

Motel vouchers

The Nehemiah Charitable Fund provides emergency shelter assistance to at-risk or homeless individuals/families using motel vouchers. Shelter stay varies depending upon need, but typically clients are provided with shelter assistance from 7 to 10 days.

Service eligibility is based on need, whereby applicants must be living in crisis, such as being homeless and/or transitioning from an existing shelter, and have an urgent need for immediate shelter.

Currently, most of our shelter placements are processed through referrals from our community partners such as the Diocese of San Bernardino, Central City Lutheran Social Services, Power Speaks Louder, San Bernardino County Social Services, and United Way 211.

Beginning January 1, 2025, all shelter placements will be referral-based only through our existing partner relationships.

Emergency Food Vouchers

Assisting with low-income or homeless individuals and families
Our agency assists low-income or homeless individuals/families with food vouchers (Stater Bros. gift cards). Eligible households can receive one-time assistance up to $400 in food vouchers. Service eligibility is based on income and financial need or crisis. Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last and funding is available.

Rental and Utility

assistance
The Nehemiah Charitable Fund provides rental and utility assistance to low-income individuals and families who are experiencing a crisis or financial hardship. Service eligibility is based on income and financial need or crisis. Applicants who meet income guidelines may receive one-time assistance of up to $1,600 over two months for rental assistance and up to $400 for utility assistance.

Payment assistance provided must be for arrears only and cannot include payments for future rent or utility bills, as such costs are ineligible. All assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis while funding is available.
